If the levee hadn't failed?

During questioning from a House committee investigating the response to Hurricane Katrina Louisiana governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco said, "There are always people who believe they are tougher than storms. And you know what, they were right, If the levee hadn't failed, they wouldn't have been in any trouble." If the levee hadn't failed? Is she serious? Shouldn't they have taken that into account when they decided to stay?

As if eating all the bird food wasn't bad enough...

I used to think my old neighbor had gone overboard when he electrified his bird feeder to keep the squirrels away. After hearing reading about a Russian squirrel pack that killed a dog I'm not so sure.

If you were wondering what to get me for Christmas.

Here are some links for some swim wear and undergarments I'd like to receive for Christmas -

Banana hammock
Mint posing suit
Trio cut-out suit

Would anyone come over to use the pool if I was sporting any of those?

This one only Jody would be [un]lucky enough to see me in.

Just in time for the holidays.

Just what you need to celebrate Christmas, a Holiday Darth Vader action figure. I'm waiting for the Michael Myers tree decoration or the Sauron nativity figure. Nothing says Christmas like evil movie characters.

Free access to newspaper archives

Have you ever searched for a article or some information on either the Boston Globe or the Boston Herald only to find it and then realize that they want $2.95 and $3.95 to get the full text of the article? If you have a valid Massachusetts library card you can get it for free. The Massachusetts Board of Library commissioners page has access to both the Herald and Globe as well as the The Republican (Springfield) and the Worcester Telegram & Gazette.

Best looking and dressed revolutionary

I didn't know the Hungarians had such good looking freedom fighters. If you have the time this 1960 propaganda comic is a pretty interesting read. Here is the description from the web page -

"Treasure Chest was a monthly comic book published by the Catholic Guild from 1946 to 1972. Each issue featured several different stories intended to inspire citizenship, morality, and patriotism. In the 1961, volume 17 number 2 issue, the story "This Godless Communism" began. It continued in the even numbered issues through number 20. The entire story is presented here."

If you don't have time to read the whole thing do check out the the drawing of Nikita Khrushchev. He might not have been a good looking man but if you only saw this you would think he was part wild boar.

omne ignotum pro magnifico

omne ignotum pro magnifico: Everything unknown is taken for magnificent.

What the flock....

I'm trying out a pre-beta version of Flock, a new browser with social software built in. I'm posting this blog entry using Flock. I currently use FireFox as my browser and Thunderbird for my mail and RSS feeds. Both are free software developed by the Mozilla Project. Flock is based on the Mozilla code base. I'm happy with FireFox and Thunderbird but this was mentioned on a couple of blogs I read so I thought I would give it a try.

Who is normal?

The other day I was putting my 4.5 year old, Alex, to bed and I asked him if he wanted the covers pulled up. He said yes and I commented how he was like me and slept with the covers on while his mother and brother were crazy and slept with no covers on. He then asked, "Daddy, how do we know they're not the normal ones?"

My Blog

I will use the blog to post things that have happened to me or that I find interesting.
